About & privacy
Clarity you can trust, limits we're honest about.
Our purpose
Don’t Believe the Hype helps ordinary people slow down and check before they share. It gives a careful, non-partisan starting point for assessing a news claim or a suspicious public account — and always points you to independent sources so you can decide for yourself.
Known limitations
- Don’t Believe the Hype currently returns a preliminary AI assessment and clearly-labelled demonstration data — it is not yet connected to live fact-checking databases.
- The AI can be wrong, out of date, or lack context. A verdict is a starting point for your own research, never a final ruling.
- Account analysis shows automation-like signals only. It cannot and does not prove that an account is a bot or who operates it.
- Don’t Believe the Hype never fabricates sources, quotes or citations. When it cannot verify something, it says so.
Data & privacy
Submitted claims and account handles are stored only to power your History and are never sold. All analysis runs server-side, and any API keys stay securely on the server — never in your browser. You can clear everything from the History screen whenever you like.
